Being a father of two girls, I’ve developed a soft spot in my heart for princesses, especially my princesses. So they have instructed me that I also must be excited for the upcoming Beauty and the Beast movie, which comes out March 17, 2017. In honor of this remake of Disney’s classic, we are introducing a new line of Tsum Tsum Cupcakes for you to enjoy!
A Live Action Belle
Personally, Belle is one of my favorite princesses because she is so down to Earth. She is one of the few princesses that does not want to be a princess. She’s also a great role model for young girls as she is someone who stands up for what she believes in, she’s an avid reader, and the bravery she shows in trying to rescue her father is extraordinary.
I think the casting of Emma Watson as Belle was a great choice, too. Not only is she a very entertaining and talented actress, but her role as ambassador of HeForShe is truly remarkable. HeForShe is a UN campaign that is striving to ensure that all women have equal rights as men, by encouraging men to stand up for gender equality. Some people have criticized HeForShe in that men need to stand up for women, assuming this approach is somehow slighting women in that they cannot achieve equal rights on their own. To me it makes sense to appeal to men in positions of power to make advancements in the area of women’s equality. If our world is truly going to see each other as equals, then it’s up to people to change that world. I believe that we rely on governments to make changes related to equality, it would truly be noble and amazing to have the world change without a law that forces them to do so.
Check out this sample of Emma Watson singing Hello from the movie.
This cupcake topper is modeled after the Tsum Tsum game, it’s cute, or as my daughters would say, “awe! adorable!” We like to make these cupcake toppers as a family event, everyone sits down and plays with fondant to build these creations. It’s a fun way to spend time with the family!
I make my fondant out of two simple ingredients, mini-marshmallows and confectioners (powdered) sugar. I melt a bag of marshmallows in a big microwave-safe bowl with 4 or 5 tablespoons of water in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time. Mix in between and stop once you have a nice smooth texture. Then slowly add in a cup at a time of the sugar, mixing well, until it reaches a consistency that is firm. This will take almost 2 pounds of confectioner’s sugar. I then knead the fondant until smooth and stretchy. If your fondant breaks when you pull it, there is too much sugar (all of the moisture has been consumed by the sugar). I will typically knead in more melted marshmallow to make it more pliable. If the texture is closer to playdough, it’s too dry. Also if you want to keep your hands from sticking to the fondant while kneading, coat them with a generous coating of shortening.
This cupcake topper, like the other Beauty and the Beast Tsum Tsum cupcakes, is made from fondant, using Wilton Gel Food Coloring.
My family and I cannot wait for the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast to come to the theatres on March 17, 2017!! For now, check out the movie trailer here!
Tsum Tsum IOS/Android Game
My kids got me hooked on the Disney Tsum Tsum game by Line. It’s available on both Android and IOS and it’s a simple, connect the character type of game, but you can earn coins and buy your favorite Tsum Tsums to play with. Belle is a really cool character to play. When you activate her she dances with the Beast across the screen, clearing in a heart shaped line!
