If you could hug one Disney character, who would it be? If James P. Sullivan, otherwise known as Sulley, does not come to mind, then well, maybe you missed Monsters, Inc.
James P. Sullivan, otherwise known as Sulley, is one of my favorite Disney characters. He is a stand up guy that loves his job, but also clearly understands that scaring is just a job. After all, when Sulley figures out that his job is creating fear in kids around the world, his world changes and it breaks his heart a little. He really is a good guy at heart.
Sulley’s animation is quite amazing, too. During the production of the film, Pixar used a relatively new program to create the lifelike hair on Sulley’s body. This program, Fizt, was used not only on Sulley’s 2,320,413 unique hairs, but was also used to make Boo’s shirt more lifelike. Also, it took approximately 11 to 12 hours, per frame, to render Sully. While we are talking numbers, there are approximately 5.7 million doors in the Door Vault.
The year that Monsters, Inc was released, it became the highest grossing animated film of all time. Seeing that it followed Toy Story, that is quite a statement. It is really no surprise, the Pixar team that created Monsters, Inc. is incredibly talented. Check out this funny blooper reel from Monsters, Inc.
Like many other Pixar movies, there are cameos in Monsters, Inc. In the scene in Boo’s bedroom, Boo is seen handing Nemo, from Finding Nemo, to Sulley. Jesse, from Toy Story, and the Luxo Ball also are seen in Sulley’s arms.
If you want to relive the moments from Monsters, Inc., head on over to Disneyland and ride, “Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!”. It’s a wild taxi ride through Monstropolis where you get to witness Sulley protecting Boo, who has been reported to be in the city, and some of the great action from the movie.

My kids got me hooked on the Disney Tsum Tsum game by Line. It’s available on both Android and IOS and it’s a simple, connect the character type of game, but you can earn coins and buy your favorite Tsum Tsums to play with. Each of the Tsum Tsums in the game have a special skill they can use to help clear Tsum Tsums. Sulley, in particular, turns a Sulley Tsum Tsum into a Big Sulley Tsum Tsum, which as you know if you play, leads to magic bubbles. Sulley’s special skill can be activated by connecting 19 Sulley Tsums. You can find Sulley in the Premium box in the store.
